Welcome to The Business of Parenting!

Parenting is one of the most beautiful—and challenging—journeys we’ll ever take. The quote above by Stormie Omartian still resonates with me after 19 years of being a mom because it really gets to the heart of parenting. It’s a path filled with love, laughter (and many times tears), bumpy road moments, and those countless moments that fill your heart to the brim. I’m Jackie—a mother of five, an entrepreneur, diplomat, and lifelong learner. I have spent almost two decades trying to figure out how to be the best wife and mom I can and how to build a strong foundation that will allow my family to thrive and succeed in all of our endeavors, whether facing daunting challenges or incredible opportunities. Through my work and research in leadership, change management, cultural adaptation, and strategic planning, I observed first-hand that to be successful in business for the long term requires intention and a strategy. And just like a successful business, I believe a thriving family doesn’t happen by accident; it’s built with purpose, vision, and yes…strategy. 

 

My husband and I have spent years navigating the delicate balancing act between our jobs and guiding our children’s growth and fostering their independence. Over time, my passion for parenting and strong families has only deepened. Drawing from my experiences–and my background in education and leadership, with an Ed.M. in International Intercultural Education from Harvard University and an Ed.D. in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California– I bring a unique perspective to parenting and leadership. I felt inspired to share what I’ve learned: the successes, the missteps, and the lessons in between, all to help others on their parenting journey. And thus The Business of Parenting, aka TBOP, was born!

 

The TBOP blog is a space to share what I’ve learned about raising a family with a sense of purpose. My hope is that through this blog parents and families will discover ways to inspire growth, maximize time together for long-term impact, and become closer and stronger in the process. My aim isn’t to offer all the answers but to share tools and ideas from my experience and research to help you on your journey. Whether you are a working parent juggling schedules and demands or a stay-at-home parent managing the daily whirlwind of family needs in addition to your own, or somewhere in between, this space is here to support you in building a family life that is not only joyful but also deeply fulfilling.
